RESEARCH AT THE RONALD REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY

“The doors of this library are open now and all are welcome.  The judgment of history is left to you, the people…”  Ronald Reagan, 11/4/1991

The Reagan Library provides access to information regarding President Ronald Reagan, his administration and his life to anyone requesting it.  Whether you are a grade school student, a serious academic researcher, a journalist or simply a fan of Reagan we are able to assist you.

The Quick Reference section contains basic information regarding Ronald Reagan and the Speeches section contains his public statements while serving as President of the United States. The Reagan Library has millions of Reagan Presidential documents available for research.  To determine if any of these open records are applicable to your research, please view our List of FOIA Requests by Topic or Textual Collections sections.  Information on filing a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request can be obtained from our FOIA information page.

Because our records are irreplaceable, and because our mandate under federal law is to preserve them, they require careful handling to protect them for future generations.  Consequently, archival materials cannot be borrowed.  If you visit us for your research project, we will bring the materials you request to you for review in our supervised research room.  We will also provide you with instructions on handling original Presidential records, personal papers and audiovisual materials.  Reasearch Room Procedures.

Our research room is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday but is closed on weekends and all federal holidays.  While there is no fee to conduct research, there are charges for self-service photocopying and to have audiovisual materials reproduced.  You are not required to make an appointment or reservation to use the research room.  However, we highly recommend that you contact us prior to your first visit so we can confirm open material for your specific topic is available.

If you cannot visit us in person, we can assist you with your research via mail, fax or e-mail – just contact us.  Copies of open records can be ordered for reproduction by our staff at the rate of $.80 per page (a $20 minimum order applies).  In addition to the Public Papers of President Reagan, available through this website, a small number of documents from our collection are available on the National Archives and Records Administration’s online Archival Research Catalog (ARC).  Our citation guide can assist you in referencing records from our holdings and our website.

Our two-page researcher application can be downloaded here.  We ask you to wait and sign the application when you are at the Library.
