The President today announced his intention to nominate Ronald L. Trowbridge to be Associate
Director of the International Communication Agency (for Educational and Cultural Affairs). He
would succeed Alice S. Ilchman.
Mr. Trowbridge is currently Director of the Office of Private Sector Programs at the International
Communication Agency. Prior to that, he was vice president at Hillsdale College in Michigan. For
a number of years, he served as editor of the Michigan Academician, the journal of the Michigan
Academy of Science, Arts and Letters. He was a professor of English at the Universities of
Michigan and Eastern Michigan. He was city councilman in Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1955 - 1959. In
addition, he has published articles on English literature, political thought, and higher
education.
He graduated from the University of Michigan (B.A., M.A., Ph. D., 1956 - 1967). He is married,
has three children, and resides in Falls Church, Va. He was born December 4, 1937.
