The President today announced his intention to nominate Manuel H. Johnson, Jr., to be an
Assistant Secretary of the Treasury (Economic Policy). He would succeed Paul Craig
Roberts.
He is presently serving as Acting Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy, U.S. Department of
the Treasury. Previously he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy at the
Department of the Treasury. He was associate professor of economics, department of economics,
George Mason University, in 1980 - 1981. He served there as assistant professor of economics in
1977 - 1980. He was with the department of economics at Florida State University as a teaching
and research assistant in 1973 - 1976.
He graduated from Troy State University (B.S., 1973) and Florida State University (M.S., 1974;
Ph. D., 1977). He is married, has two children, and resides in Fairfax, Va. He was born February
10, 1949.
