The President today announced his intention to appoint Leo F. Callahan to be a member of the
National Institute of Justice Advisory Board, Department of Justice, for the remainder of the term
expiring January 11, 1984. He would succeed Alexander Green.
Mr. Callahan has been serving as chief of police for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since
1973. He has been with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since 1956, when he was
appointed as a police officer. He served in all divisions of the police department and received
numerous commendations, both public and official. He is a past director of the Florida Chiefs of
Police Association and is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
He attended Fort Lauderdale University (1957 - 1959) and Broward Community College (1966 -
1968). He graduated from Nova University (M.S., 1978). He is married, has two children, and
resides in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was born October 27, 1932.
