The President today announced his intention to nominate Terry Edward Branstad to be a member
of the Board of Trustees of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation for a term expiring
December 10, 1987. He would succeed Christopher S. Bond.
He was elected Governor of Iowa in 1982. Previously he served as Lieutenant Governor of Iowa
and was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives in 1972 - 1978. He was a senior partner
in the law firm of Branstad-Schwarm in Lake Mills, Iowa.
He graduated from the University of Iowa (B.A., 1969) and Drake University (J.D., 1974). He is
married, has two children, and resides in Des Moines. He was born November 17, 1946, in
Leland, Iowa.
