The President today announced his intention to nominate James Brian Hyland to be Inspector
General at the Department of Labor. He would succeed Thomas F. McBride.
Since 1980 Mr. Hyland has been serving as Deputy Inspector General for the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Previously he was Assistant Inspector General,
NASA, in 1979 - 1980; Inspector, Federal Bureau of Investigation, in 1979; Director, Surveys
and Investigations Staff, Committee on Appropriations, U.S. House of Representatives, in 1978 -
1979; and Assistant Director, Surveys and Investigations Staff, Committee on Appropriations,
U.S. House of Representatives, in 1975 - 1978.
Mr. Hyland graduated from Fordham University (B.S., 1960) and George Washington University
(M.B.A., 1972). He is married, has four children, and resides in Fredericksburg, Va. He was born
May 31, 1938, in White Plains, N.Y.
