The President has nominated Richard E. Carver to be an Assistant Secretary of the Air Force
(Financial Management), Department of Defense. He replaces Russell D. Hale, who has resigned.
Mr. Carver has been mayor of Peoria, IL, since 1973. Previously he was president of the Carver
Lumber Co. He is a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve and is coordinator of admission
counseling, downstate Illinois, for the United States Air Force Academy. He is immediate past
president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Mr. Carver graduated with a B.S. degree in business administration from Bradley University in
Peoria. He was born September 28, 1937, in Des Moines, IA. He is married, has four children,
and resides in Peoria, IL.
