Statement on the Death
of William Averell Harriman
The
world has lost one of her most respected statesmen. The death of Averell Harriman closes a chapter in diplomatic history
which only someone of his talent and stature could have written.
Nancy
and I offer our sympathy to his wife, Pamela, and to his family. On behalf of
my predecessors, whom he served with such loyalty and dedication, I join all
who mourn his passing.
