Nomination of Frederick
K. Goodwin To Be Administrator of the Alcohol, Drug
Abuse, and Mental Health Administration
The
President today announced his intention to nominate Frederick K. Goodwin to be
Administrator of the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration at
the Department of Health and Human Services. He would succeed Donald Ian
Macdonald.
Since
1982 Dr. Goodwin has been Scientific Director of the National Institute of
Mental Health for the Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to this he
was Chief of Clinical Psychobiology for the National Institute of Mental
Health, 1977 - 1982. He has also served as chief of the section on psychiatry
in the laboratory of clinical science. Dr. Goodwin's clinical research
interests have been focused on biological and psychological factors in major
depressive illness and in manic-depressive illness.
