WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF RECORDS MANAGEMENT (WHORM) ALPHABETICAL FILE, 1981-1989, 2,387 l.ft.

 

This collection is referred to as the “Alpha” File at the Reagan Library.  It consists of non-policy or non-action level correspondence sent to the White House and/or the President. The material in this collection is comparable to the material filed in the old “Name” file for earlier presidential administrations. Material is arranged in alphabetical order by the last name of the correspondent or the first word in the name of the organization.

 

Material found in this collection includes birthday greetings and holiday greetings as well as anniversary messages both to and from the President.  There are also notes accompanying books, audiovisual material, requests for photographs, résumés, descriptions of organizations or events, and personal notes regarding invitations to various White House events, etc. Very few items required action other than a brief acknowledgement from the White House.

 

At this time, the Library does not have a full inventory list of the entire Alpha File.  However, below is a list of currently open and available material from the Alpha File.
