BROOKS, LINTON F.:  Files, 1986-1988

 

Arms Control Directorate

Mr. Brooks was the United States’ chief negotiator for the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with the Soviet Union, a role in which he had the rank of ambassador. He is a retired Navy officer.

Recently, Mr. Brooks served as the head of the National Nuclear Security Agency within the Department of Energy. The agency was formed in 2000 and Brooks became the Director in 2003.  He stepped down as director in late 2006 amid continuing concerns about nuclear security issues particularly at the Los Alamos nuclear laboratory.
