Council of Economic Advisers; Special Assistant to the Chairman

This collection is arranged in two series: SERIES I: Subject File and SERIES II: Correspondence File.

SERIES I: SUBJECT FILE (2.5 l.ft.; OA 7424-7425)

This series consists of material related to economic and trade issues from the first two years of the administration including the automobile tariff agreement with Japan; the Gold Commission; passing and implementing the President’s economic program including reduction of regulations and confronting economic problems of the country including unemployment and inflation. Also included is a series of minutes and background papers for the Cabinet Council on Economic Affairs for 1981-1982 and individual folders on other Cabinet Councils. The material is arranged alphabetically by folder title.

SERIES II: CORRESPONDENCE FILE (3 l.ft.; OA 7426-7428)(

This series consists of material related to economic and trade issues from the first two years of the administration. The material is correspondence and chronological files or outgoing and incoming memos and letters. The chronological file for January 1981 consists almost completely of the work of Susan Irving. Irving was the special assistant to the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers at the end of the Carter administration. She acted as Chairman pending the confirmation of Reagan’s Chairman nominee Murray Wiedenbaum. James Burnham replaced Irving in February 1981.
