United State-West German relationship upon the fortieth anniversary of the end
of World War II. The acceptance of this
invitation was controversial among Jewish and other groups because members of
the Waffen SS were buried in the cemetery.
The records include correspondence from the general public that is
negative and positive regarding the President’s attendance at the ceremony,
schedules, planning memorandums, and speech drafts.
